Evil Queen Villainbound

So yesterday I finished what I might consider to be the worst pattern I have ever used - Simplicity 8050. I can't say enough how much I disliked this pattern. Its crazy to me that 1- you use ten (10) buttons down the front but then still have to use a side seam zipper. 2 - that it entirely skips the step for putting the upper collar together before attaching it to the neckline of the bodice. 3 - that it completely fails to demonstrate how to get the points to lay flat as pictured - the directions are vague and unhelpful.

All that said - I removed the tiresome points and made my own directions for the collar - sew right sides together for the outer edge of collar and then serge the ends that get attached to the neckline.

I did my own color blocking with this pattern to showcase a more Evil Queen vibe with her glorious cape. I took the purple from a bleach stained thrifted queen size flat sheet and cut it in half to get more traditional yardage (now I have purple for July's Ursula project!) and took the black fabric out of my scrap bin leftover from Halloween and some leftover scrap white. I was careful about placing my pattern pieces around the stained areas so they didnt wind up in the middle of my dress. Those ruined bits will wind up in my scrap quilt or in reusable cotton rounds so they are not wasted.

Now I just need a red apple bag and I'm all set - I have gold crown earrings that are perfectly on point for this Evil Queen look. How did I do? Could you tell who I was bounding on the color blocking alone? Love it? Hate it? Tell me about it in the comments below!
