I'm retroactively sharing this from my February Upcycle Disney Villain Challenge for this year. I am so incredibly proud of how this one came out and I was excited to use this pattern for the first time and it was such a lovely fit for me! I can't say it enough, I LOVE the Burda Young 7308 pattern.

I had gone thrifting with my friend Becky to one of my favorite support thrift stores in Clermont and had found a huge stash of tablecloths that were perfect for several of my upcoming projects and among them was this super thick and luxurious feeling 70" round table cloth. $4. I'm not joking! This whole dress cost me $10 to make with the table cloth, zipper, and feather for the hat - everything else came from a scrap bin at home leftover from past projects like a Purple Mario costume and an Ariel Christmas stocking.
I had already made a round tablecloth skirt for Thanksgiving a few years ago and the marvelous thing about round tablecloths is that they are already hemmed! All you have to do is cut a hole out in the center (I use this calculator to determine how big a hole) to add a waistband make a small slit for a zipper - unless you're making a large hole to put elastic in instead which is totally valid!
So I started off with cutting the tissue for the pattern (I had already made the shrug from it once for a commissioned bridesmaid dress) and then proceeded to cut out pieces of the bodice, a rectangle for the belt, and the lace for the bolero. I just cut a hole in the tablecloth to add to the bottom - it did make it longer but with the heaviness it will be nice for a slightly chilly day!
I pieced together the princess seams of the bodice - I LOVE that there are no darts on this - it takes a lot of the guesswork out of making adjustments since I usually sew for my upper half a smaller sewing size than my bottom which has been blessed with abundance.
After assembling the bodice I attached the tablecloth bottom and installed the zipper.
The belt was basically just a rectangle folded in half and turned right side out with three hook and eye closures. My fabric was stretchy unlike the fabric it called for I cut it down 2 sizes smaller for this project.
The bolero only had three pieces so I did my 2 darts and attached them together and hemmed all the way around.
The hat totally made this outfit! I used some of the same red scrap fabric I used to make the belt so I could remove the band and the feather if I needed a plain black top hat for another project. I like being able to repurpose things so long as it doesn't detract from the outfit and the statement remains unaltered.
I quick stitched some spats - though the buttons are decorative only decorative - they hold together with velcro. I gave them a spin at work at they stayed in place all day without a problem so I'm less likely to ruin the white fabric with my fingers fastening them on.
The only thing I didn't do that I wouldve liked to have done was make a fabric folding fans and painted his tarot card design on them so it looks like Im dealing out cards when I pop the fan open. Maybe if I find time after another project and I finally get to wear this into the park some day. Until then, my office loved it!
So what do think? Does it look like Dr Facilier? Did I make my sketch come to life? Comment below with how and where you'd wear this amazing ensemble!
